Day at sea
(full photo gallery at the bottom of this page) Our first full day on the ship was a relaxing day at sea. We had a wonderful buffet breakfast at Cabanas. The kids were so happy because they could eat anything that they desired. They had a huge variety and were happy not to be told "no" to eating anything that they wanted to eat as long as they didn't take too much and waste the food.
After breakfast we delivered some of the 110 fish extender gifts for our fellow DISboard group. The kids really wanted to go swimming in Mickey's Pool so returned to the stateroom to put on swimwear. It was a little bit chilly for swimming. There was a breeze on the pool deck and the weather in October in not exactly hot. It was perfect weather for just relaxing for sure.
After playing in the pool the kids decided to check into the Oceaneer Lab for some playtime. They were very impressed with the Super Sloppy Science activity where they made Flubber. (You can see all of today's activities at the bottom of this page, above the list of photos, in today's personal Navigator) While the kids enjoyed some playtime we went to work on delivering more Fish Extender gifts and trying to track people down to hand out our group lanyards. (You can see more pictures & information on the Fish Extenders on this website under the DISBoard group page. I have put pictures of various fish extenders as well as the doors and some of the Fish Extender gifts. We handed out necklaces and post cards as our gift to others in our Fish Extender groups. Below are the post cards that we handed out, 25 cards per stateroom.
We picked the kids up from the Oceaneer Lab where they were they had a great time making cupcakes in the Ratouille cooking school and then they were captain of their own virtual cruise ship. We ate lunch at almost 3:00 in the afternoon. We enjoyed a quick bite at Flo's Cafe. The food was great and we even got to eat sitting Oceanside! The view was as good as the food.
In the afternoon we spent time trying to find answers to our three treasure hunt sheets. Our DISbaord group put in a treasure hunt. Those participating got three question sheets and a map giving hints to the answers. There was a scavenger hunt where you had to find things around the ship and in the ports to return with. The first sheet was a pirate treasure hunt to see what kind of a pirate you really were. The second sheet tested your knowledge of the ship and the third sheet was a Day Of The Dead trivia sheet. There were prizes given out for Day Of The Dead since we were in Mexico for Halloween and in Mexico they celebrate Day Of The Dead instead of Halloween. Day Of The Dead is actually celebrated on November 1st (Our 3rd day at sea). November 1st was the day that the prizes were handed out. (You can find more pictures and information on the scavenger hunt on this website under the "DISboard Group" page.
After lunch, a little relaxation and more fish extender gift deliveries it was time to get ready for formal night. We had finally gotten most of the lanyard delivered to the group member. This was a little difficult since our first night meet up was cancelled because of the late start. So it took a little searching to find people that had moved or upgraded rooms right before boarding.
Our formal night dinner was held in Animator's Palate, our favorite restaurant. The dinner entertainment tonight was Turtle Talk with Crush. The characters from Nemo swam around through the large screens in the dining room. When Crush came to the screens he would talk ot people and ask questions while interacting with them. Much like the show in Epcot. I only wished that Crush spent a little more time interacting with people. Our kids really wanted a chance to talk to him, but we were not seated right next to the screens.
After a leisurely dinner, we went to see the Aladdin Show in the Walt Disney Theater while the kids chose to go back to the Oceaneer Lab. We took some time before the show to take pictures as a couple; we don't get this opportunity very often. The night went by quickly and we were soon fast asleep getting some much needed rest for another day at sea tomorrow.
